Problem Solving in Neighbourhood Watch Peterborough
Turning Local Challenges into Community Solutions
A Proactive Approach to Community Safety

At Neighbourhood Watch Peterborough, problem solving isn’t just a task — it’s a mindset. Since our founding in 1992, we’ve built a reputation for tackling local issues head-on, using a blend of grassroots insight, collaborative partnerships, and practical action.
Whether it’s a rise in anti-social behaviour, concerns about burglary, or environmental challenges like fly-tipping, our coordinators work closely with residents and partner organisations to identify problems early and respond effectively.
How We Solve Problems — Together
1. Local Intelligence
Our strength lies in the knowledge of our coordinators and members. They know what’s happening on their streets — from recurring nuisance behaviour to emerging safety concerns. This local insight is the foundation of every solution we build.
2. Regular Reporting
Through our Coordinator Action Group, which meets every 6–7 weeks across Peterborough’s Police Sectors, we gather reports from each area. These meetings are a space for sharing updates, spotting patterns, and discussing what’s working — and what needs attention.
3. Collaborative Partnerships
We don’t work alone. Neighbourhood Watch Peterborough actively liaises with:
- Cambridgeshire Constabulary
- Peterborough City Council
- Housing associations
- Domestic Violence and Drug Support Panels
- Environmental Services
- Local businesses and voluntary sector groups
These partnerships allow us to escalate concerns, access resources, and coordinate responses that make a real difference.
4. Practical Support
From supplying street signs and leaflets to helping launch new schemes, we equip coordinators with the tools they need to take action. We also offer guidance on how to engage neighbours, report incidents, and work constructively with local authorities.
Real Impact, Real Stories
Many of our schemes began in response to specific local challenges — a spate of car break-ins, persistent noise complaints, or a lack of visible community presence. By coming together, residents have transformed concern into confidence, and frustration into focus.
Our problem-solving approach doesn’t just improve safety — it strengthens community bonds and builds resilience.
